
SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY
The Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for promoting the highest
level of language functioning, motor speech, swallowing and cognitive
skills. This may include skills related to speaking, thinking, reasoning,
understanding and processing language. It may also include understanding
language in both the written and spoken form. The Speech-Language Pathologist
evaluates and develops a treatment plan to address the above stated areas.
The therapist will work with the client on becoming more functional in
their home and community. Compensatory strategies are developed to accommodate
challenges. The Speech-Language Pathologist assists with the establishment
of interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary goals.

Jill Bates has more than 20 years of experience, working with both
adults and children who have sustained neurological injuries.
Heather Koole, MA, CCC-SLP
Heather Koole has more than six years of experience working with adults
and children who have sustained neurological injuries.
Jody Maertz, MS, CCC-SLP
Jody McCartney has more than eight years of experience working with adults
who have sustained neurological injuries.
Heather Tobin, MA, CCC-SLP
Heather Tobin has more than 12 years of experience working with clients
who have sustained neurological injuries. Heather works on Harbor’s
Kalamazoo/Battle Creek team.

PHYSICAL THERAPY
The Physical Therapist is responsible for promoting the highest
level of independence in the areas of physical functioning and mobility.
In order to promote the highest level of independence, the Physical Therapist
evaluates and develops a treatment plan to address the above stated areas.
The Physical Therapist may also fabricate splints and make equipment
recommendations. The therapist will work with the client on becoming
more functional in their home and community. The Physical Therapist may
assist with the establishment of interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary
goals.
Lynn Bashore, PT
Lynn Bashore has over 16 years of experience working with adult clients
who have sustained neurological injuries.
Martha Fisher, PT
Marty Fisher has over 24 years experience working with young children who have neurological, orthopedic, or developmental disabilities.
Jennifer Gushiken, PTA
Jeni Gushiken is a Physical Therapist Assistant with more than six years of
experience working with adults and children who have sustained neurological
injuries.
Mary Lockrow, PT
Mary Lockrow has over 21 years of experience working with children and
adults with neurological injuries.
Michele Potter, PT
Michele Potter has over sixteen years of experience working with clients who have
sustained neurological or orthopedic injuries. She has specialty training in spinal cord injuries and vestibular rehabilitation.
Sarah Willson, PT
Sarah has over nine years experience working with
adult and pediatric clients that have sustained neurological and orthopedic
injuries. Her special interests include manual therapy services, including craniosacral therapy and myofascial release technique.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
The Occupational Therapist is responsible for promoting the
highest level of independence in activities of daily living, range of
motion, gross/fine motor coordination of the upper extremities and deficits
in visual perceptual skills. Additionally, the Occupational Therapist
may fabricate splints and make recommendations for adaptive equipment.
The Occupational Therapist may address home making skills, work re-entry
or community re-entry. In order to promote the highest level of independence,
the Occupational Therapist evaluates and develops a treatment plan to
address the above stated areas. The therapist will work with the client
on becoming more functional in their home and community. Compensatory
strategies may be developed to accommodate challenges. The Occupational
Therapist may assist with the establishment of interdisciplinary and
trans-disciplinary goals.
Michelle Baareman, OTR
Michelle has over seven years experience working
with adults that have sustained neurological, orthopedic, and/or brain
injuries.
Karen Ann Chapel, COTA
Karen has over 2 years of experience in working with both adults and children who have sustained orthopedic and neurological injuries. She specializes in visual deficit treatments.
Joan Coates, COTA
Joan is a recent graduate and has pre-dominantly worked with adults with neurological impairments and/or orthopedic injuries. She is an advocate for physical fitness to counteract the de-conditioning that takes place during bed rest.
Sarah Jolliffe, OTR
Sarah Jolliffe has over 14 years of experience working with both adults
and children who have sustained neurological injuries.
Diane Miller, COTA
Diane Miller has over 17 years of experience as a Certified Occupational
Therapist Assistant working with clients who have sustained neurological
injuries.
Jill Reichardt, OTR
Jill Reichardt has over 12 years of experience working with clients who
have sustained neurological injuries.
Gayl Murley Venman, OTR
Gayl Venman has over twenty-six years of experience working with children
and adults with neurological injuries.

SOCIAL WORK
The Social Worker is responsible for the evaluation and treatment
of psychosocial functioning, providing individual and/or group counseling,
and addressing issues related to the client’s loss. The Social
Worker may assist clients in adjustment issues and crisis intervention
and may assist with the development of interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary
goals.
Rick Eisen, MSW, LMSW, ACSW
Rick Eisen is a clinical social worker with over twenty-one years of
experience working with adults who have sustained neurological injuries.
Debbie Gaffney, MSW, LMSW, ACSW
Debbie Gaffney is a clinical social worker with over twenty-one years of
experience working with children and adults who have sustained neurological
injuries.

RECREATIONAL THERAPY
The Recreational Therapist is responsible for promoting the
highest level of independence as it relates to leisure skills and community
re-integration.
The Recreational Therapist evaluates and develops a treatment plan to
assist the client in pursuing the above stated areas. These activities
may need to be adapted to suit the client’s level of functioning
and abilities. The Recreational Therapists may assist with the development
of interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary goals.

Maria Besta has over thirteen years of experience working with children
and adults with neurological injuries.

REHABILITATION TECH
Mark Carey
Mark recently received a Bachelors degree in Health
Science from Grand Valley State University, where he is currently seeking
a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. He works with clients on goals for community
reintegration.
Joshua Groulx
Josh is currently a senior at Grand Valley State University earning a Bachelors degree in Health Professions, and will go on to pursue a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. He currently works with clients to help them attain their goals for successful community re-integration.
